Marie Williams is a writer and artist based in Queensland, Australia. Her first book, Green Vanilla Tea, was awarded The Finch Memoir Prize.
Marie, also known as Gela-Marie, spent much of her career as a social worker (MSW) before swapping clipboards for paintbrushes and writer’s notebooks. She practiced in health settings, the not-for-profit sector, clinical education and private practice. It was important work and a privilege to be invited into the intimate spaces of peoples’ lives. Her writing combines her breadth of experience with rich storytelling as she continues to explore what it is to be human.
Marie grew up in South Africa and has lived in America and Canada. She has now settled in the semi-rural outskirts of Brisbane.
